Slaying of Brooklyn Cops Involves More Than It May Seem.

All this chaos right before the holidays ?! Really world !!!?

Over the weekend two on duty police officers were shot and killed while sitting in their squad car in Brooklyn, NY.  Ismaaiyl Brinsley, the 28 year old suspect fled the scene to a near by train station where he took his own life using the same handgun he allegedly used on officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu .2-photoscops

When Detectives did some digging they discovered earlier in the day Brinsley had been accused of shooting his ex girlfriend in Baltimore. Brinsley was also ranting about killing cops via social media. Using the Instagram name @DontRunUp,  his photo captions read.  “I’m putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours…Lets take 2 of theirs.”   Brinsley is an alleged gang member from Baltimore and traveled to New York to seek vengeance against the NYPD in retaliation to the recent killing of Eric Garner.

All major media outlets have been running wild with this story. Considering news coverage over the past few months has been saturated with backlash in regards to the decision to not indict Officers  Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo in the slaying of two unarmed Black men Eric Garner and Mike Brown. The country has been in an uproar and demonstrating their right to protest, while receiving support from Reverend Al Sharpton and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio.  While both men concur that all protests should remain non violent they are being blamed for the slaying of the two officers.

Actor Stacy dash took to Twitter to say “These murders are the natural result of the #jihad on cops that @theRevAl & @DeblasioNYC has called for. They should be held accountable.”  She didn’t stop there, in regards to a press conference held for the two officers she says, “@deblasionyc has no business being at the press conference and should resign before the end of the year.”stacey-dash-nypd-twitter

When de Blasio arrived at the conference the majority of officers turned their back to him as he entered the room. The shade he received steams from him advising his son (who is half Black) to take “special care” when in the presence of a police officer. NYPD President also took a turn at bullying de Balsio by saying “There is blood on many hands”.

It should be clear that Brinsley did not serve any justice by executing two innocent police officers, but unfortunately the press is taking this story and running with it. Brinsley was obviously a disturbed man that had issues prior to current events. Considering he was an alleged gang member with a rap sheet longer than the Nile river, He shot his ex girlfriend in the abdomen then made his way to New York as he premeditated murdering two innocent officers. Oh, don’t forget he thought it was necessary to shout out the NYPD on his Insta prior to the killings and he kind of took a selfie of his blood stained clothes. Yes, ladies and gentlemen this is a sane man fighting for justice and this is exactly what protesters had in mind when they were shouting “No justice, No peace”.

It is very in interesting how this entire situation came about. Why did Brinsley travel all the way to NYC? How did he know that those two officers would be just sitting there? Did he plan on fleeing to that near by G train? Unfortunately, we will never know the answers to any of these questions.

This has Olivia Pope scandal written all over it.  Trying to distract us from the real issues maybe?  If Brinsley was alive he would have indefinitely been indicted on all charges because you can’t kill a police officer and get away with it. You can however kill an innocent unarmed Black man and get away with it. (Unless your a Black man of course, then you get 20 years)

As an officer when they pin that badge on you it may as well be a target.  It is not rare for an officer to be slain in the line of duty, but their attackers are always brought to justice.  When you sign up to become an officer of the law putting your life on the line is real it is not just words. It is a sacrifice you agreed to make for that check and great pension you will receive.

It is heart breaking that two men lost their lives, especially  family men right before the holidays. My condolences go out the families of Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. May you forever Rest In Peace.

The Queen of Rap releases ‘The Pink Print’

The Queen of Rap (yea I said it) blessed us with the ‘Pink Print’ while you were sleeping. This by far may be Nicki Minajs’ best work. Her third album came with features from heavy hitters like  Meek Mill, Ariana Grande,Beyonce’, Lil Wayne and Drake. Minaj takes us down a road of melodic flows followed by the hard beats that made us love her. The visionary continues to use imagery and heart-felt rhymes to walk us through what her life has been like since the last album. While it starts out with slow and heart-felt tracks, Minaj kept it one hundred and opens up her heart to us. In “I Lied” Minaj reminds us underneath the perfect figure and ensembles she is still a women longing for love and fears rejection and a broken heart.  In “I Lied” Minaj confesses “You just a heart breaker, won’t let you brake mine, because I’ll be smashing windows and cutting those break lines”. After being a tad bit emotional Minaj goes zero to a hundred real quick with Meek Mill for “Big Daddy”  and reminds us of her comedic persona.

If you were ever unsure about Nicki this is the album for you. The ‘Pink Print’ covers the hues of Nicki Minaj.

Lady Saw Talks New Album, Reality Television and Inspiring Women.

The Queen of Dance Hall is back with her new album Alter Ego. Marion Hall has been giving us hits for the past 25 years and continues to deliver fire. A listening party was held for Hall at Chung King Studios here in Manhattan, and the responses to the album have been explosive. The event was packed with media reps and other artists, such as reggae singer Serani, who came out to show love. After all of the commotion settled, I sat down with Lady Saw and had an intimate conversation with her about the album, reality TV and how she plans to uplift women.

The “I’ve got your man” singer shows no signs of settling down. Her newest fourteen track album includes melodic tunes and the infamous dance hall tracks she is praised for. This time around, Hall plays with different genres from country to blues while collaborating with mega-stars like Flo-rida, Estelle and Beres Hammond. While speaking on the collaborations with Flor-rida Lady Saw reflects back to her manager telling her “[Flo-rida] is too expensive, you can’t afford him.” When it was all said and done, the “Low” rapper agreed to do the song for free. Lady Saw humbly says, “God works everything out”.

The exchange between the timeless singer and I was comical when I asked about reality television. Lady Saw laughs and says, “ So much of my life is in the media and I’ll say things on stage and talk about my sex life because I like to shock people. My sex life is good, it’s very good. I can’t do the Hollywood thing, I can’t do the camera in my face every day. I’m a boring person on a regular day, my real friends are grown women and too busy counting their money from their businesses to gossip”.

When asked what she wanted people to get from this album, she simply answers “I want people to know there are layers to me, I want to inspire and uplift women.” Unbeknownst to her she is already supporting women in a big way. A percentage of the proceeds from Alter Ego will be going towards aiding battered women through the Lady Saw Foundation. The album includes songs that recognize abuse and recall abusive events that have occurred in her life.

Alter Ego is a complete mix of emotions but a pleaser none the less. It is now available on iTunes, and you can get additional information about The Lady Saw Foundation at ladysaw.com.

You will fail but so what, it’s all apart of the game!

I write to inspire, point blank period. I want to motivate everyone who reads my posts to become their best self.  I have learned throughout the years how crucial  inspiration is especially when trying to achieve greatness.

I was doing a little web browsing and came across an article that spoke about being fearless. The article was meant to aid small business owners but it was an article anyone could read and take something from. It spoke about being fearless. Recently, I went to a job interview for my dream job and completely failed. I was overly prepared for this interview and crammed so much information about the company into my head I forgot who I was, what I stand for and why I deserved that position. I was a wreck because I was way to apologetic. In those 20 minutes I allowed others to take my power, and sought validation.  I was focused more on what I didn’t have than what I did have.

Oh well the milk is spilled right ? I then treated myself to three shots of Jack, a Jack and Diana and a Corona.  (Oh and dinner, dinner was there too.) More importantly, even though I feel like a complete failure I remind myself I can only fail so many times before  I win 🙂

So cheers to being fearless enough to fail and continuing to work hard until the big win.
